We spend the majority of our time at work longing for a day off. Often dreaming about the places we can explore, the attractions we can visit, or just the extra time in bed we can treat ourselves to!
But having said that, how often do we find ourselves wasting our days off, setting our alarms bright and early, only to spend the majority of our day sitting on the couch binge-watching the latest Netflix series and indulging in food choices that we end up regretting the next day?
If this sounds like you, here are a few things you can add to your to-do list the next time you have a day off work.
Morning Workout
First of all, set yourself the goal of attending a morning gym session or even timing a long walk, run, or cycle with sunrise. This won’t just get your day off to a great start, it will leave you reaping the rewards throughout the day. Research shows that exercise in the morning can lead to improved focus, energy, and overall mood throughout the rest of the day. This way, you’ll find yourself resisting the urge to waste the day.
Explore Your Local Area
In the lead-up to your day off, make a list of places close to home you’ve always wanted to visit but never had the opportunity to. Research things like how to get there and any costs associated with each place so your plans can’t be scuppered on the morning of your day off.
In terms of where to go, focus on places that are scenic or historic. You’ll feel far more fulfilled if you find yourself learning something new or taking in a sight you haven’t seen before. Museums, national parks and touring historical buildings are all great ways to spend a productive day off.
Catch up with old friends or relatives
If you’re somewhat of a social butterfly, spending time alone probably isn’t for you. A day off can be the perfect opportunity to catch up with a friend or family member whom you haven’t seen in a while. In terms of what you can do, try combining this activity with some of the other ones on this list and head for a morning walk together or visit a famous local landmark. Alternatively, a cosy pub or vibrant coffee shop can make for the perfect setting for an overdue catch-up.
Spa day
If you’re someone who enjoys relaxing on your days off, try turning this into a spa day. This will ensure you still feel well rested while also making sure you don’t spend your whole day cooped up in the house. Don’t feel guilty if you want to spend your day off in cosy loungewear doing absolutely nothing; everyone’s different, and spending a day off travelling or exploring isn’t for everyone. However, relaxing at a spa rather than at home will allow you to access luxurious treatments and first-class facilities. If you’re fortunate enough to have multiple days off, you can even treat yourself to an overnight stay at one of your country’s top spa resorts.
Book A Facial
On the same note of a spa day, why not book a luxury facial at The Clinic Cheshire? It’s a great way to not only relax but also have amazing skin and treat things such as fine lines, any scarring, or pigmentation. They are such a nice experience that I think everyone should do it at least once in their life.
