3 Essential Tasks to Keep Your HVAC System Working

When it comes to maintaining your HVAC system all year round, there are 3 essential tasks that you need to keep on top of that can make a whole world of a difference for the quality of your HVAC system but are also cost-effective and energy efficient. Some of the most important tasks include regular filter changes, inspections of the outdoor unit, and routine maintenance by professionals who specialise in a range of models and types of HVAC systems.

Regular Filter Changes

Something that I wasn’t aware of is that the filter needs changing pretty regularly, and depending on how frequently you are using it, it will dictate how long before you need to change it. So especially during the peak summer and winter months, the frequency of changing would be more and possibly twice a month. As your HVAC system runs, it pulls in air to pump back out cool or warm, and when it pulls it through, dust, hair, and so forth are brought with it to prevent this from clogging the filter. If the filter is blocked, the HVAC system can essentially stop doing what it’s supposed to which can lower the indoor air quality and create unhealthy air, which can cause allergic reactions and affect your indoor plants, and so forth.

You should change your filter at least once every few months and more frequently during the peak periods of use. If anyone does suffer from allergies, this also would encourage you to change the filter more frequently to ensure that the home life is a healthy and comfortable one. To correctly change the filter, be sure to refer to the unique user manual, or during your first maintenance check, ask the professional to give you a visual demonstration. If you can use a filter with a high MERV rating to filter out the much smaller particles, this will be a much better option for indoor air quality and those who are sensitive to harmful particles. Don’t exceed the manufacturer’s recommended MERV rating on your filters, as this can actually damage your HVAC system.

Inspections of Your Outdoor Unit

Another monthly task to add to the routine is an inspection of the outdoor unit if you have one; this is usually housed somewhere accessible and looks like a metal box. When your AC is running, you’ll hear noises coming from it, making it best to find it. Make sure that you are clearing it out and removing any shrubbery that could potentially grow within it to ensure there are no faults or damages that come from Mother Nature. It needs a few feet of clearing around it for proper airflow and optimal effectiveness. Every few months, consider taking a shopvac or brush to give it a proper deep clean as leaves, dirt, and debris are likely to have collected in the unit and can in turn damage it if not removed properly.

Maintenance

It’s reckoned that up to twice a year, you should get a professional to come and check up on your air conditioning in Yorkshire. Professionals from the likes of RES Group can in turn check, fix, and inspect your unit and ensure that it’s perfect for the next 6 months.
