Best Foods To Bring to A Potluck

For large family gatherings, birthdays and parties, a great way to relieve the pressure from the host and to help save them money is to encourage a potluck. this means that food is brought from every group or individual that can be enjoyed by the group; it’s like a picnic but you are bringing food for a much larger audience. This is a great way to show off a new recipe or to bring some wholesome choices that will be appreciated by all.

If you are new to the world of plucking and you are looking for some inspiration or advice, then we have you sorted. You may have been given a role, whether that be to bring a main or an appetiser, so we have included a range of each to ensure that you have some sort of advice on all angles.

Appetisers

Mini’s

Nothing screams appetiser than miniature versions of well-beloved food so a few good examples could be spring rolls, build-your-own bruschetta, vegetable platters with dips, and mini quiches. There are so many things you can do in miniature that are delicious and safe options. I think if it were me and I got picked to do an appetiser, I would bulk-create some minis.

Vegetable Pasta

A little healthy side option could also be some sort of vegetable pasta with a light sauce such as pesto. This could be a great little option if you are torn on what to do but need to do something simple, quick and effective.

Salads

While this might be a boring option for many, it’s nice to have a refreshing and still delicious option to be enjoyed by many. Consider herby lentil and burrata salad; this is a great vegan and vegetable option that brings something protein-packed but also healthy.

Mains

Lasange

Something that is both a crowd-pleaser and relatively simple to make in a large batch is the classic lasagna. It’s a delicious option and there isn’t a single person that I know that doesn’t love a lasagne.

Sandwiches

Pre packed sandwiches are a staple; everyone enjoys a sandwich with their meals so it would be a real crying shame if there weren’t any. Plus, the kids love sandwiches among their crisps and other things so it’s a must.

Pot Roast

A hearty dish is a chicken or beef pot roast. It would be such a warm addition to the table and can be appreciated for days after.

Saucy meatballs

Another classic dish we all love at home, some saucy sausage meatballs are a great addition to everyone’s plate and they are really simple to make.

Shepherds Pie

On the theme of real heart meals we love at home, a large portion of shepherd’s pie goes down a right treat at the potluck.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to doing part at a potluck, consider the crowd, what you know you are good at making and if it’s something that will be appreciated by all. Sometimes it’s easier to assign each other a category or dish to but it’s always fun when you just go off, create something and then it goes down as an unexpected treat.
